Last Sunday was the annual beach and surrounding area clean-up at Cala Lllonga and Sol d’en Serra. This fun, family day event was organised by the Viva Cala Llonga Residents Association as well as Santa Eulalia town hall. The idea is to ‘spring clean’ the area and then enjoy a b-b-q, drinks and a band on the beach in the afternoon.

Punta Dive were invited to help out and around a dozen divers from their PADI dive centres in Cala Martina and Cala Llonga joined forces with the local Gaurdia Civil (GEAS) and dived the bay, cleaning as they went.

I’m pleased to say that generally the bay was very clean – but what rubbish we did find, we took with us. This included some bottles ,cans, plastic bags, metal tubing and pipes. The largest items were a car engine and rear axle!

All in all there were around 150 volunteers at this great event and a lot of rubbish was collected and disposed of in the correct way as well as the community getting together and enjoying an afternoon together.

A big thank-you to our divers and everyone there on the day as well as all the organisers and official bodies who did an amazing job.

See you all there next year!
